Numbers on disc

Numbers on disc

The numbers on a disc golf disc refer to the disc's specifications and performance. Most discs have four numbers, which represent the following categories:

1st number is Speed(1-14.5) : The higher the Speed, the easier the disc cuts through the wind, which can be an advantage when throwing long distances or into a headwind. High Speed discs do not always fly further than low Speed discs, as it depends on how hard you can throw. Low Speed discs are easier to control and at NewDisc we recommend that beginners wait a little before throwing high Speed discs.

2nd number is Glide(1-6) : The higher the glide, the better the disc floats through the air, which allows you to throw further. This is especially good for beginners who want to throw a little further. Low Glide is an advantage when you want to control your distance on the throw and when you want more precision in upwind throws.

3rd number is Turn (+1 - -5): Turn tells how the disc reacts to the rotation at the beginning of the flight, right after you throw. We assume that you throw backhand with a high hand (HHBH). The lower the Turn, the more the disc will fight against its natural rotation and turn to the right (turn over). If a disc has the number 0 in Turn, it will fly straight in the first part of the flight. Few discs have positive numbers in Turn and these discs fly to the left immediately (HHBH).

4th number is Fade(0-5): Fade tells you how the disc reacts to the rotation at the end of the glide. The higher the Fade, the more the disc will turn to the left (HHBH). A disc with a Fade of 4 or 5 will be good for "skipshots" and "spikeshots" and discs with a Fade of 2 or 3 are often good for upwind throws. If you want your disc to end its glide straight, you should throw a disc with a Fade of 0 or 1.

Together, these four numbers give a good idea of how a disc will behave, helping players choose the right disc for different throws and situations on the course.

If you don't think the disc is flying according to the numbers, it is often because the Turn and Fade numbers only match when the disc is thrown at the right speed.
